Palm oil is an agricultural commodity that is found in all things we use daily from food to personal care products. It is an edible vegetable oil derived from pulping the fruit of oil palms which are native to Africa.
Why is Palm Oil a problem?
Palm oil has become one of the world’s leading causes of rainforest destruction.
One of the biggest threats to driving wildlife species like the Sumatran orangutan to the brink of extinction in Indonesia.
It is releasing globally significant quantities of carbon pollution into the atmosphere.
It is responsible for widespread human rights violations since palm oil companies often forcefully remove Indigenous Peoples and rural communities from their lands. To find our more CLICK HERE.
At Eye of Horus, we do not have Palm Oil in our products however we have made a commitment to responsible sourcing of Palmitic Acid, a palm oil derivative ingredient. 100% of the Palmitic Acid used in our mascara is obtained through our supplier on the Malay Peninsula and has been certified sustainable by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Sustainable Palm Oil plantations in areas that are not rain forests such as the Malay Peninsula, support local farmers, free the exploitation of indigenous communities, ensure sensitive rainforests are not deforested and endangered species are protected.
Recently we were featured in Slow Magazine as part of their “Clean and Green” feature on palm oil free/sustainable palm oil sourcing for products.
