SACRED LOTUS SYMBOL

WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE ENGAGEMENT OF OUR BEAUTIFUL GODDESS HOLLY <3
Her partner designed her engagement ring using elements of the sacred lotus symbol. The ring features a diamond in the centre with stylised diamond filled Egyptian lotus detail on the side. The lotus symbol has always been significant to Holly, the founder of Eye of Horus Cosmetics.

In ancient Egypt there were two main types of Lotus that grew, the white, and the blue. However the sacred Blue Lotus was the flower most commonly used and the one depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The lotus was observed to close at night and sink underwater. In the morning it re – emerges and blooms again. The flower became a natural symbol of the sun and creation.

In many hieroglyphics the lotus is depicted as emerging from Nun (the primordial water) bearing the Sun God. As something that is associated with rebirth, it is no surprise that the lotus flower is also associated with death.

As a symbol of Re Birth, the lotus was closely related to the imagery of the funerary and Isis Cult. The four sons of HORUS were frequently shown standing on a lotus in front of Osiris and Isis

The famous Egyptian book of the dead is known to include spells that are able to transform a person into a lotus, thus allowing for rebirth, regeneration and resurrection.

The lotus flower also was used as a symbol for the unification of the two Egyptian kingdoms, or the bonding of upper and lower Egypt. For a long time the lotus had been used in the hieroglyphics and art of upper Egypt, whereas in lower  Egypt the Papyrus plant was in abundance and depicted in their art.

The Lotus was often shown with its long stems intertwined with papyrus reeds (a symbol of Lower Egypt) as a representation of the unification of the two lands. So each other became a symbol of the bringing together of the two kingdoms.

The Scared Lotus is found in many ancient cultures. In Buddhism it is associated with Purity and Spiritual Awakening. In Hinduism, it represents Beauty, Fertility, Prosperity, Spirituality and Eternity.
