Origins Of Beauty

Our Goddess Cait travelled to our ultimate inspiration – Egypt – and explored the land, ancient sites and people. She brought home a rich insight into Egyptian culture and their idea of beauty.

During my stay I learnt about both the ancient and modern culture of the Egyptian people. It was when I explained to the family about how I work for a beauty company inspired by Ancient Egypt.. that we got talking about the women of Egypt and their beauty rituals and makeup.

We spoke about the fact that beauty is seen to have originated in Ancient Egypt.. as the Egyptian women were the first to define their eyes with black kohl. Back then they believed drawing on this cat eye style liner protected them in the name of the God Horus. Horus was known for The Eye of Horus – a powerful symbol of protection and awakening.

When I asked the ladies if they still wore the kohl liner for this reason, they laughed at me and winked, saying they do… but nowadays it is more common to be seen as a beauty trend rather than spiritual meaning.

They told me that for them, decorating their eyes was a daily ritual which awakened something within in them… a sort of magical confidence to go about their day. I went on to tell them about our companies tag line “Awaken The Goddess Within”, where we strive to deliver the highest quality cosmetics for the everyday woman to feel empowered from the inside out.

They were certainly impressed by the story and inspiration for Eye of Horus Cosmetics. When I asked them what eye makeup they use on a regular basis, they told me the combination of black kohl pencil and black mascara, which were the first two products Eye of Horus Cosmetics ever launched in it’s range.”
